The Mozambique National Resistance (Renamo), the main opposition party, this Monday demanded the government’s resignation for what it called a failure to implement the Uniform Pay Table (TSU), accusing the executive of “disrespect” for civil servants.
“Faced with this gross and systematic violation of the Constitution of the Republic and other laws that demonstrate the absolute incompetence and disrespect of Mozambicans for the current government, Renamo and his president demand the immediate resignation of the Mozambican government,” he said. On Monday, Renamo Judicial Council President Simone Macuiana speaks at a press conference.
Macuiana found it “unacceptable and shameful” that the executive approved the Uniform Pay Table (UTS) in Parliament without carefully considering the budgetary implications, which made it impossible to implement the new remuneration grid.
He continued that TSU failed to provide fair pay in public administration because it failed to close the gap between the highest and lowest wages.
“The introduction of TSU is proving to be disastrous, with successes and setbacks, more than seven months have passed in which civil servants and agents still do not know for sure the real amount of their salary,” said Simone Makuiana.
Failure to comply with TSU has left workers in a situation of uncertainty and instability, leading to a deterioration in the quality of public services, Makuiana continued.
The introduction of TSU is strongly contested by several professional classes in Mozambique due to errors in various pay scales, with doctors going on strike after said failures and teachers threatening to follow the same path.
