A vessel used to illegally harvest Japanese shellfish was rescued from Praia do Rosario in Moita on Tuesday after it was experiencing difficulties due to rough seas. Since this was an illegal activity, the boat and clam were confiscated.
The alarm was raised around 17:00 to the Lisbon harbor master.
A statement from the National Maritime Administration explained that 13 people were on board the vessel that crashed off Rosario beach in the municipality of Moita.
An alert about the stranded vessel was raised by a member of the public at 4:20 p.m., and two vessels from the Port Authority and Lisbon Maritime Police Local Command were dispatched to the location, the statement said. .
As a precaution, 100 kilograms of Japanese clams on board were removed and, since they were still alive, returned to their natural habitat, the National Maritime Administration said.
