Association of Informal Guardians to warn deputies of non-compliance with measures

The National Association of Informal Guardians will inform the members of the Assembly of the Republic of guardians who remain unrecognized and non-existent, are only eligible for the Support Grant and are awaiting the implementation of the approved measures.

The National Association of Informal Caregivers (ANCI) held a hearing Tuesday morning at the Labor, Welfare and Integration Commission on the legal regime of the Statute of Informal Carers.

Speaking to Lusa, the ANCI vice president explained that the purpose of the hearings is to warn MPs that with regard to informal guardians, the reality is that “the law was approved, and that’s it.”

“The trustees still don’t exist, they don’t have recognition, they haven’t taken action,” Maria Anjos Catapirra criticized, according to which “the only thing” that works is the support subsidy, which “covers two thousand and a few people.”

There will be around 1.1 million informal caregivers in Portugal, according to the official and based on estimates from the Social Security Institute.

In early November last year, ANCI organized a meeting to say that things were still the same, inviting a number of people from the health or social sector who “may provide some information,” including the Secretary. States for Inclusion, Ana Sofia Antunes.

“The Secretary of State guaranteed that by the end of November we will have everything, support measures have been implemented, referral medical workers, rest of nurses, the decision has already been issued, but this is not true, we have nothing,” Maria said. Anjos Catapirra.

The referral health worker measure has only been implemented “in two or three municipalities because they’ve already come from pilot projects” and the care leave ordinance “hasn’t come out yet,” the ANCI vice president said.

“In terms of association, we hope that at least the opposition parties will take up this issue, because this issue has been ignored since the constitution of this government,” he said, expressing “some hope” that some MP “takes over “.

María José Catapirra recalled that “situations remain, people are getting worse” as the cost of living has risen and informal caregivers continue to be left without the necessary support.

“At least put out everything that is legally enshrined,” asked the person in charge, for whom the delay in implementing the legislation is explained by the fact that there are no unions or “bosses” behind the educators who help to show the reason.
