The President of the Liberal Initiative, Rui Rocha, was convinced this Wednesday that in the autonomous regions of Madeira and the Azores it would be possible to form right-wing alliances without Chegi, even if they would have to represent “relative majority governments”.
“Democracy always has solutions. If there is no government with an absolute majority, then there is a government with a relative majority,” said Rui Rocha, faced with the possible impossibility of forming a right-wing majority in the two autonomous regions without the participation of Andre Ventura’s party.
“Governments with an absolute majority have already proven that they do not work and that they are falling after a year and a half of stagnation, problems, crises and all that. Why can’t a government of a different nature work better? Let me have the opportunity to check this,” added the IL leader, who spoke to reporters after meeting with the director general of the Industrial Association of the Setúbal Peninsula (AISET).
Faced with the fact that the PSD/Azores president José Manuel Bolheiro did not close the door to a possible understanding with Chega, contrary to what was in the speech of the PSD national leader Luis Montenegro, who rejects it, perhaps Rui Rocha considered that this was not an IL problem.
“The Liberal Initiative has a peculiarity: it is very clear in all these situations, it clearly states its position to the Portuguese and therefore I cannot take on the pain of others,” he said.
“On this issue, I heard what Luis Montenegro said – he insisted that this is also impossible for the PSD – and I cannot doubt what the obligations of Luis Montenegro and the PSD are. The situation of the PSD in Madeira “The situation of the PSD in the Azores, Bolheiro’s statements, is the topic of the PSD. I will not comment on this issue,” added Rui Rocha.
Following a meeting with AISET, which addressed the companies’ concerns as well as solutions that, from IL’s perspective, included cutting some taxes, Rui Rocha also expressed concern about the poor performance of Portuguese students in assessment tests. recent assessment by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) through PISA (Program for International Student Assessment).
“We have specific short-term, emergency proposals: challenge retired teachers to voluntarily return to teaching – where there is a shortage of teachers – by accumulating a pension with a salary of a certain amount,” he said.
“We have emergency recovery plans because a lot of learning has been lost in recent years, especially during the pandemic, as well as the reintroduction of compulsory end-of-cycle assessments because it is important for students and also important for the system,” “ he added Rui Rocha, believing that student assessments are necessary to check whether there are improvements in learning.
