The Agriculture Minister said this Wednesday that IFAP had received an “unfortunate message” about the cuts for farmers, ensuring that an exceptional measure had been taken in response to the wishes of the sector.
“There was a message from IFAP [Instituto de Financiamento da Agricultura e Pescas] “dissatisfied” with the 25% and 35% cuts, Agriculture Minister Maria do Seu Antunes said at a press conference in Lisbon.
In a joint meeting with Finance Minister Fernando Medina, the minister explained that the executive branch had decided to “create conditions” to meet the expectations and desire of farmers “to be able to adopt more sustainable practices.”
The Minister has already announced a support package for farmers that will, among other things, support applications for green organic farming and integrated production schemes.
