Russia threatens to blow up tanks supplied by US to Ukraine

The Kremlin said on Wednesday it would blow up battle tanks supplied to Ukraine by the United States if they reached Kyiv.

U.S. officials have said Washington is about to send dozens of M1 Abrams main battle tanks to Ukraine, reversing its previous stance, Reuters reported.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that sending tanks to Ukraine would be “a waste of money” as it would only “overestimate the Ukrainian army” because “these tanks are burning like others.”

These statements came after the US and Germany announced that they would send tanks to the war in Ukraine.

Kyiv has been demanding Western tanks for months now, saying Ukraine “desperately needs to give its forces the firepower and mobility to break through Russia’s defensive lines and reclaim occupied territories to the east and south.”
