Mortagua believes that BE can influence the government more than Chega, with whom “no one wants to sit next to”

In a debate in which they disagreed from start to finish, Mariana Mortagua and Andre Ventura discussed topics such as the housing crisis, immigration and corruption, and sharply criticized both sides. During the face-to-face conversation, Chega’s leader called Mariana Mortagua a “hypocrite,” and Bloc coordinator de Esquerda even said that “no one wants to sit next to Andre Ventura because of his politics.”

The view on Portugal’s housing problem was one of the dominant topics in the debate broadcast on Tuesday on RTP3. Mariana Mortagua accused Chega of advocating proposals “for millionaires” because she was more interested in golden visas and real estate interests than people.

“Investments are for luxury homes, not for people. Chegi’s proposals advocate real estate speculation, which is why he supports golden visas. I want people to be able to access a home on their salary,” said Mariana Mortagua.

In his defense, Andre Ventura said that “the weight of golden visas is 3% on real estate investments and has no impact.”

“Chega touches on an aspect of supply and demand that is completely ignored by the Bloc de Esquerda. He’s not worried about giving tax breaks,” Andre Ventura said.

“I wasn’t the one whose advisor sold houses for triple the price,” Ventura noted, saying it was necessary to have “a little bit of shame” for the “hypocrisy and helpless expression.”

The Chegi leader also accused the blocker of attacking local housing, considering it “communist nonsense that wants to attack the economy.”

Ventura also took the opportunity to remember that Chega is a party “with the rich, [pessoas] middle class and poor” and that the proposals apply to everyone.

When it came to corruption, Andre Ventura recalled that when Chega “proposed tougher penalties for corruption, BE voted against it.”

“The problem is not the fines. I want to condemn, because without condemnation there is no punishment. You can’t convict because the money is hidden offshore,” Mortagua responded.

Regarding the issue of immigration, the blocker believed that Chegi’s policy in this area would lead to “chaos.” “This means chaos in Portugal, in agriculture, in fishing, in houses, in construction,” he explained. “There are immigrants because there is a need for immigrant work in Portugal,” he explained.

For Mortagua, the only uncontrolled immigration is secret immigration, which is dominated by the mafia and leads to gang exploitation. For the blocker, this should be treated with greater severity.

Andre Ventura responded and said that Mariana Mortagua is advocating “the transformation of the country from Oriente Station”, referring to the homeless population that is growing in the area.

Mariana Mortagua concluded her speech by recalling that this invention “did what it promised.” He wants to solve problems with housing, healthcare, schools with teachers and wants a “Country without fear.”
