Montenegro warns: if the PS cannot guarantee stability alone, “what will it do together”

The chairman of the PSD said this Saturday that the AD is the “standard of stability” in the next legislative elections, warning that if the PS cannot guarantee stability with an absolute majority, “what will it do together.”

At the end of the visit to the Feira do Fumeiro dos Sabores e Artesanato do Nordeste da Beira in Trancosa (Guarda district), Luis Montenegro still did not answer journalists’ questions about whether he recognized the possibility of creating a possible minority government PS and When asked whether it was important for Portuguese stability in politics, he answered yes.

“Political stability is as important as it is ensured by the principles that guide this candidacy,” he responded, believing that AD has all the conditions to receive “parliamentary support that gives the country governability.”

And he added: “We are the standard of stability, look carefully: if there was stability on the side of the PS, we would not have participated in the elections. We are participating in the elections because the PS could not create stability alone. [imaginem] what will you do together,” he warned.

CDS-PP President Nuno Melo is absent this Saturday and for the next few days from the AD campaign (the coalition uniting PSD, CDS-PP and PPM) due to a positive test for Covid-19. a campaign source said.

Regarding the post-March 10 scenarios, Montenegro preferred to respond to journalists by “focusing on the problems” of the Portuguese, such as health, housing or “weak economic growth.”

“I am very puzzled by those who only worry about themselves, I don’t worry about myself (…) We want to be close to those who walk the roads of Portugal every day, whether in industry, agriculture, trade or tourism”, He said.

In about an hour, Montenegro walked through almost all the counters of the fair and ended up trying cheese, alheira, cherries and even wine, “the favorite of the president of the republic,” according to the seller.

Beira Interior’s wine has a promising title, “The Great Question”, and when asked if it shared Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa’s taste, Montenegro said it was a “good wine” and promised “good answers” to the Portuguese problems and a “strategic approach”. investments” in agriculture.

The AD leader bought a Saint Anthony made by a local craftsman who, he said, gave him “health and money” and took the opportunity to leave some advice for the candidate: “Things should be done little by little and done.” health, without health nothing can be done.”

“I agree with you, two good messages: the priority of health and doing more, albeit more slowly, instead of saying that you can do everything and either not do it or do it poorly, in which my opponent is an expert,” said the leader of the social democrats.

At one of the last stands he found a young student of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto, whom Montenegro took the opportunity to praise the director of this school, Oscar Afonso, number four AD in the lists of Porto, and even allowed him on other flights, while the media asked whether he would a good finance minister.

“This is possible, she has the capabilities, qualifications and competence for this and other things,” he assured.

At all the stalls, Montenegro asked prices – especially for olive oil, of which it is also a small producer – and found out how things were going. To those wishing good luck on March 10, he always answered: “Everything is in your hands.”

During the visit, in which he was accompanied by the head of the list, Dulcinea Moura (a university professor presented as an independent), the AD leader set himself the goal of returning Guarda’s second deputy to the circle in which the PSD fell in 2022. one of three elected, against two from the PS (same as in 2019).

In 2015, when the circle elected four deputies, the PSD/CDU-PP coalition received two of the four parliamentarians, and in 2011 the distribution was three from the Social Democrats and one from the PS.

Montenegro arrived in Feiro do Fumeiro, accompanied by MEP José Manuel Fernandez, and welcomed several mayors and former mayors of the district, such as Alvaro Amaro.
