On Tuesday, IL’s president accused the socialist government of abandoning the health sector and leaving it divided between those with ADSE, those with insurance and those “abandoned” at the doors of hospitals.
In an afternoon dedicated to the Faro district, Rui Rocha visited the site where he said the construction of a hospital had been planned for more than 22 years to demonstrate the “negligence and delay of decisions” of successive governments, namely the socialist one.
“Unfortunately, we are here in a place where there should be a hospital and where it was discussed and planned over 22 years ago, but the truth is that it has not yet been built. This means that the Algarve region has huge health access restrictions,” he said.
Speaking about the grim scenario, the Liberal leader pointed to it as another example of the “lack of assertiveness, activity and ability to solve the problems of the people, especially the socialist government.”
Insisting that health is an area abandoned by the PS, Rui Rocha argued that it is necessary to act and propose solutions.
Thus, the IL President committed, if elected, to continue the construction of this medical facility for a maximum of two years, stating that it is an “absolutely necessary” infrastructure.
“We have witnessed the restrictions that exist in the Algarve, sometimes in Portimão, sometimes in Faro, there are great difficulties, services are closed, there is a great shortage of health services, and this is our commitment to the Liberal Initiative, this hospital will be built,” he assured.
Rui Rocha also said that in terms of healthcare, Portugal is a country with three speeds: “The speed of civil servants who pay for ADSE services, the speed of those who have the means to pay for health insurance, and the speed of those who are left to their fate at the door emergency departments and closed medical centers.”
In his opinion, the country is not user-focused enough, and it is important to develop so that the user is at the center of decision-making.
And he added: “If someone needs surgery, I think having a coat that says ‘SNS’, ‘Mercy’ or ‘Private Clinic’ is least important, if that person trusts the decision and wants it, that makes all the difference.” and that’s what we have to do. “.
Therefore, Rui Rocha strives to offer proven solutions and models that work in countries with good medical services.
More than 10.8 million Portuguese are called to vote on March 10 to elect 230 members of the Assembly of the Republic.
