PSD Madeira breaks coalition with SDS-PP and moves forward alone if early elections take place

The leader of the PSD of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, confirmed this Wednesday that the party will run alone if the President of the Republic calls early elections in the autonomous region, breaking the coalition with the PSD-PP, which won the 2023 regional elections.

“In my proposal, I propose that the PSD compete alone,” said Miguel Albuquerque, also pointing out that he has already announced his candidacy in the internal elections of the regional structure of the PSD, scheduled for March 21.

On Monday, CDS-PP leader Rui Barreto called the Social Democrats’ decision to go ahead with the elections alone “the termination of a contract without a valid reason,” stressing that his party is “a factor of stability, competence, responsibility in the regional government of Madeira.”
