The creator of Football Leaks, Rui Pinto, learns this Monday of an eye-opening decision by the Central Criminal Court in a case in which he is responsible for 377 crimes related to access to the emails of Benfica and other organizations.
The decision will result in an indictment, transfer of the case to trial or no charges following two previous convictions of the accused, one in Portugal and the other in France.
In connection with this process, Rui Pinto is responsible for 377 crimes related to access to the emails of Benfica and other clubs, the League of Clubs, companies, lawyers, judges, prosecutors, the Tax Administration and the National Internal Security Network.
According to the indictment, there are 202 trespassing offenses, 134 correspondence violations, 23 aggravated correspondence violations and 18 felony criminal damage offenses.
Also on the table at the end of the moot debate was the question of applying the amnesty law approved last year in conjunction with World Youth Days to 134 of the 377 crimes attributed to the creator of Football Leaks.
Prosecutor Vera Camacho left the question of the applicability of the amnesty law to the court, with the defense asking for 310 crimes to be expunged and deputies present at the investigative arguments asking for the accused in all 377 crimes to be announced.
Rui Pinto, who missed the end of the moot debate on February 2 because he was in France cooperating with European authorities in the trial, will face a new trial after being convicted in the Football Leaks case last September. Lisbon Central Criminal Court, followed by four years’ suspended imprisonment for the offenses of attempted extortion, aggravated postal violation and unlawful access.
In November 2023, a 35-year-old man was sentenced in France to six months in prison with a suspended sentence for illegally accessing Paris Saint-Germain emails.
