“We need money,” say two elderly women on a street in Barreiro as Pedro Nuno Santos, leader of the PS, walks by. They are not the only ones. “I sincerely ask that the money reaches the right places,” asks Carlos Reis, a service provider at Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Torres Vedras.
In the election campaign, everyone asks and the leader of the PS, which this Wednesday was divided between the streets of Barreiro and Torres Vedras, left the confidence that he will fulfill his promises and addressed, so that this was possible, to the votes of the undecided.
After the promises, the message to the main opponent did not take long to arrive. Pedro Nuno says that AD brings “several names” with the aim of “expanding their candidacy, but what they are doing is reminding of what they have done”, this is not just a reduction of “the same thing” during a crisis, But he’s also “always against” women’s rights, he says.
Later, Paulo Portas becomes the main target. “The memory he left behind is not very good,” he says, giving him the usual “kisses” from store to store, door to door. “The names that AD presented to us remind us of the worst,” he says.
There are only a few days left before the election, but the candidate does not forget that there are still many undecided voters. “They will play a very important role” and therefore “they must go and vote” so that “there is no risk that we will agree with the AD government”, says Pedro Nuno. The call goes directly to older people, those who wave the flag in support of the cuts the right can make.
With an approved budget, Pedro Nuno does not risk having to redo the accounts to accommodate certain measures. For example, tolls on the former Scut will stop next year. “There are measures that are immediate, and others that are taken throughout the legislature,” he explains.
