Rui Tavares said this Wednesday that the results of the emigrant votes “could change the results” of Sunday’s legislative elections.
Co-representative Livra became the second political leader to be heard by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, in Belém, after several meetings planned by the head of state following the results of the legislative elections on March 10.
After the meeting, the only party deputy so far spoke to reporters at the Belem Palace. In his speech, Rui Tavares called for caution and reminded that votes were still to be counted. “We must respect these processes. We still don’t know the distribution of all the mandates,” he said.
Referring to Chega’s 48 mandates, he stated that “the regime’s crisis is being exacerbated by the rise of authoritarian populism” and commented on governance scenarios. “It is necessary to look for the broadest and most united political bloc. There is a camp of the left and ecology; there is a camp with the PSD, HDZ and IL; and a camp with Chega on the side,” explained Rui Tavares.
The representative of Livre doubts whether this right has “arithmetic” or political significance for the party led by André Ventura. “If the left parliamentary camp has more mandates, will the SDP, CDU and IL support the proposal to reject Chega?” he asked.
Livre was one of the winners on election night, managing to increase the number of deputies in the Assembly of the Republic from one to four.
PAN leader Inés Souza Real was the first person Marcelo listened to in Belem. After a meeting with the President of the Republic, the deputy rejected the hypothesis about the PAN approach to AD, recalling “indispensable lines” for the party he leads.
This week the head of state also hosts the CDU (Thursday), the Left Bloc (Friday) and the Liberal Initiative (Saturday). All meetings are scheduled for 17:00.
At the same time, but already next week, the three parties with the most votes will be received. He will arrive on Monday, the Socialist Party on Tuesday and the Democratic Alliance coalition on Wednesday.
