Man amputates woman’s finger with pruning shears after raping her in car

A 42-year-old woman beaten and raped by her husband near the reservoir of the Castelo de Bode dam in Tomar has been transferred to the San José hospital in Lisbon, where she is awaiting reconstructive plastic surgery. The rape took place in a car in the early hours of last Sunday before the 44-year-old attacker went home where he tied up the victim, amputated her ring finger with pruning shears and shaved off her hair and eyebrows.

After being tortured, he escaped from his home and was arrested early in the morning by the PNP and handed over to the Leiria police, waiting in a cell to be brought to court this Wednesday.

According to CMthe episodes of violence had already dragged on and worsened when the woman said she wanted a divorce.
