PSD MP José Pedro Aguiar-Branco was elected president of the Assembly of the Portuguese Republic on Wednesday with 160 votes in favor, but only on the fourth attempt, after the PS and PSD announced an agreement that would see the Social Democrats preside over parliament alone for the first two sessions of the Legislature, until September 2026, and the Socialists will nominate a candidate for the rest of the Legislature.
