Sporting player Denilson Santos, 17, is one of the youths involved in an alleged use of force during a police intervention in which several PSP agents were filmed attacking youths in custody in Setúbal.
The police actions led to the opening of an investigation by the Inspectorate General of Internal Administration (IGAI).
The incident occurred in the early hours of last Tuesday after PSP reported that five people stole a car on a street in Setúbal.
According to PSP, when agents arrived on the scene, they encountered a “vehicle in the middle of the road with its headlights off” and one of the five suspects, ranging in age from 15 to 18 years old, managed to escape.
The rest were intercepted.
The 15-year-old was identified and released. The remaining three, including a Sporting and U17 player, were detained and later appeared before a judge.
“Sporting is investigating what happened to the player in order to take appropriate measures,” a source at Sporting told reporters. CM. The Setúbal PSP has also launched an investigation “to determine the proportionality of the use of force.”
