A woman and four children were left homeless after a house explosion in Ponte de Sor

A woman and four children were left homeless on Thursday evening after an explosion in the house where they lived in Ponte de Sor (Portalegre district), a Civil Protection source said this Friday.

A source from the Subregional Command for Emergency Situations and Civil Protection of Alto Alentejo told Lusa that a 34-year-old woman and four children aged between 2 and 6 years lived in the house.

The alarm was raised at 20:10 and the explosion was caused by a gas leak in the furnace.

The woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to Portalegre hospital, while the children stayed overnight at the family home, a source at the sub-regional command said.

The source also added that the house is no longer suitable for habitation.

The relief operations involved 11 operators assisted by five vehicles.
