In the document, the CEO, led by Luis Montenegro, also states that he wants to “initiate a process of restoring the attractiveness of a career in the security sector, namely through the above-mentioned remuneration review.”
The assignment of an additional task to the police, identical to that which the previous government assigned to members of the judicial police, is the main demand of members of the PSP and the GPR, who organized several protests in the first two months of the year. .
In areas of security force intervention, the government also promises to “provide conditions for displaced security force professionals, namely through support for residence and their families, promoting greater balance between professional, personal and family life.”
The Ministry of Internal Administration (MAI), headed by former Inspector General of Internal Administration (IGAI) Margarida Blasco, also aims to “invest in training” for security forces, especially throughout their careers and “in a strong culture.” human rights.”
“It is important to emphasize the universality of human rights, and therefore the relationship between citizens and security forces will need to be systematically and systematically built on the mandatory design of the process of modernization of security forces, promoting in particular, “to the introduction and implementation of working methods compatible with the protection of human rights , combating feelings of racism and xenophobia,” the document says.
In this sense, the government wants to focus on “proper recruitment and adequate initial and ongoing training of security forces, as well as creating incentives and promoting adequate professional motivation for all those who work and want to work in these security forces.” .
According to the program, the government intends to “highlight and strengthen the work of IGAI” and “strengthen support and monitoring in health issues, especially psychological ones, taking into account stressful situations and high suicide rates.”
The MAI also wants to “strengthen the authority of the security forces and protect the system of criminal punishment for crimes committed against members of the security forces,” as well as “reorganize the allocation of agents to the most appropriate tasks, ensuring police proximity, analysis and rapid resolution of citizen complaints,” allowing for “quick and respond clearly,” and to find “a new model in the administrative field that frees up more agents to avoid and free them from redundant tasks.”
