Chegi President André Ventura said this Monday that the Assembly of the Republic will not approve initiatives against the government if it “governs well” and fulfills its promises, and accused the Prime Minister of despair.
“I would say this to Luis Montenegro: Chega, the PS and others will not legislate against the government on one condition: that the government governs well and does what it has promised. If it does not do this, Parliament will have to do it, because Parliament is the one who decides,” he said.
On Sunday, the PSD president and prime minister called on the leaders of the PS and Chegi to say whether they want to create an “alternative government” and “legislate together,” given that this must be decided “face to face” before the Portuguese.
This Monday, President Chega said that “PS and Chega, like all parties, must do one thing, and that is to fulfill the election promises”, and noted that “Dr. Luis Montenegro has deviated from the election promises, which he said he will have compiled the largest tax return of our time and made fiscal corrections,” indicating that “Chega and other parties should have come and corrected it.”
“I said I want to return income to families, and so far nothing, I said I want to solve the problem with the police, nothing yet, I said I will solve the problem with teachers, nothing yet. And so I understand Luis Montenegro’s despair. , when you cannot manage well, it is best to say: pay attention, PS and Chega together. What he means is, “I can’t do better, and others in Parliament are doing better than me.” he defended.
Andre Ventura noted that “Chega will not stop taking the initiative and fulfilling his election promises solely because the PSD does not want to do this.”
“If the PSD refuses to govern the people, if the PSD refuses to fulfill its election promises, Chega does not want to know who will return to its side, Chega wants to make people’s lives better,” he said.
Ventura also said his party does not support attempts to “create a crisis at any cost” or “victimization a la Cavaco Silva.”
On Sunday, Luis Montenegro also demanded that Chegi “explain why in Europe she goes hand in hand with the French, Italian and German parties defending the Russian Putin regime.”
When asked about these statements, Ventura thought it was “very childish” on the part of the Prime Minister and stressed that “Cega has from the very beginning been the party in Portugal that most or one of the most vehemently denounces Russia.” .
“I remember that it was Chega who introduced a draft resolution in parliament condemning Russia as a terrorist state, which Dr. Luis Montenegro’s PSD voted against,” he said.
Stating that he was “very happy with this issue,” the Chegi leader said that “many parties of the I.D. [família política europeia do seu partido] those in government have done more for the Ukrainian refugees than all the friends of Dr. Luis Montenegro and the friends of Dr. Pedro Nuno Santos,” as “meant in Italy.”
And he accused the PSD president of wanting to “distract attention.”
On this occasion, President Chegi was also asked about the vote his party took in parliament for MPs to express their “deepest and most severe condemnation of Mr. President of the Republic and the words he spoke to reinforce this idea.” reparations and confirm that Portugal must pay compensation for its historical past in its former colonies.”
“I think parliament has the power, just as it can condemn other heads of state, it can also condemn ours,” he defended and asked for the support of other parties so that the project could become viable.
When asked whether this initiative does not call into question the institution, since it intends to condemn the President of the Republic, Ventura replied that “it is the institution that has called itself into question, since the President of the Republic, as I said on the 25th of April, is not elected by other countries, not former colonies or former provinces,” but the Portuguese.
“A president who does this is very close to what is even a crime in the Criminal Code, which is high treason,” he said.
Ventura also indicated that the party was considering “other parliamentary initiatives” but declined to say anything more when making the announcement Tuesday.
President Chegi recalled that the party had asked for the Foreign Minister to be heard in parliament and said it was important to hear Paulo Rangel “explain what it is about.”
