Fernando Madureira, a former Super Dragons fan leader, and Hugo ‘Polaco’ were given suspended sentences for their involvement in clashes with around 200 Benfica fans ahead of a roller hockey match with Porto at the Invicta Stadium.
Seven convicts were banned from visiting sports facilities.
Madureiro, also known as “Macaco”, was given a suspended seven-month prison sentence by the judge, while “Polaco” was given a suspended one-year and three-month prison sentence.
“This behavior is unacceptable and they must channel their passion for the club into support,” the judge said at the end of the trial.
The sentencing of the Super Dragoins members was announced this Thursday. Nine defendants stood trial in the case after they armed themselves with rocks, bottles and pyrotechnic devices to attack Eagles fans. Prosecutors said they asked for prison sentences for all defendants, but two were acquitted by a judge due to a lack of full evidence.
During their disagreements, they PSP members who were victims of attacks. The judge found that 50 stones, glass bottles and a torch were thrown at the authorities. One of the police officers had to be hospitalized after being hit in the face with a stone.
Fernando Madureira denied any involvement in the attacks, despite being identified by one of the victims and evidence suggesting he was at the scene.
