The health emergency plan has been ready for a week and will be presented on Wednesday by the prime minister, the coordinator of the working group that prepared the document told Luse on Tuesday.
The government’s plan will focus on restoring waiting lists for consultations, operations and tests, maternal and child care and primary health care.
Eurico Castro Alves, who coordinated the 13-member team that developed the emergency plan, refused to move forward with the measures included in the plan he presented to the health minister a week ago, justifying it as “commitment to the government.”
The online newspaper Observador reports that the plan includes new measures to be implemented on June 1, urgent measures to be implemented within a period of 30 days to six months, and structuring measures to be implemented in the long term.
In the fields of obstetrics and paediatrics, the plan includes a number of incentives to retain and attract specialists, especially in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley region, according to the newspaper.
In terms of emergency services, pilot projects are planned in the Lisbon and Porto areas, targeting non-urgent patients (tested with blue and green wristbands) and “new ideas” about care in overburdened emergency services.
According to the Observer, the plan would create a specialty in emergency and emergency medicine, and health centers would focus on increasing direct care and, like obstetricians and pediatricians, would also have family doctors. the opportunity to benefit from a package of benefits if they agree to work in areas with a high shortage of specialists, namely Lisbon and the Tagus Valley.
The plan also calls for restoring waitlists for oncology surgeries by increasing compensation incentives for teams of professionals who agree to work extra hours.
