The head of the PS list in the European elections, Marta Temido, this Thursday seemed surprised and very concerned about the searches of the European Parliament (EP) on suspicion of Russian interference and corruption.
“It’s very worrying, I think we were all a little taken aback by the searches yesterday. [quarta-feira] and in which some officials from European institutions, from the European Parliament participated,” he said.
The MEP candidate, who is campaigning this morning in Aljustrel, Beja district, told reporters she was alarmed by the alleged attempt to interfere with the agenda and votes of MEPs by third countries.
“Especially with the very specific intention of destroying what is a project of democracy and stability. The concern is knowing that everything is already at that level of intrusion and this is not a movie,” he concluded.
Belgian federal prosecutors announced that authorities raided the offices of a European Parliament employee in Brussels and Strasbourg on Wednesday morning as part of an investigation into suspicions of Russian interference and corruption.
He is a former parliamentary aide to German MEP Maximilian Krach of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, according to a source close to the matter.
According to the Belgian prosecutor’s office, searches also took place at the home of suspect Guillaume Pradura in Brussels.
Cra is currently a parliamentary assistant to Dutch MEP Marcel de Graaf, a member of the Forum for Democracy, a Dutch Eurosceptic and conservative party.
