The Government Code of Conduct sets the maximum basic value of gifts, benefits and invitations at €150. This limit, recorded in an official document, corresponds to what was determined by the previous government list.
“Members of the government shall refrain from accepting proposals (…) of material, consumer goods or durable goods or services that may condition the impartiality and integrity of the performance of their functions,” can be read in the code of conduct of the Executive Power of Luis Montenegro was published in Diário da República in the first weeks of the reign. But there are exceptions, mainly when refusal can be interpreted as a “violation of inter-institutional respect”, especially in relations with other countries. In these cases, in accordance with the above code of conduct, gifts must be accepted and registered, and the collection in question must be made public.
On the other hand, according to the same document, the use of government vehicles is also limited, since government officials must “refrain from using or allowing third parties to use” these vehicles. The same applies to information technology and communications.
