Cotrim de Figueiredo accuses Bugallo of lacking economic understanding

The head of the Liberal Initiative list for this Friday’s European elections accused AD candidate Sebastian Bugalho of not “knowing enough about economics” to be able to help the business sector.

“I look at the remaining candidates and I don’t see anyone speaking on behalf of the companies, even the AD, who should be particularly sensitive to these issues, I see that she is doing this, in fact, that was the debate. It is obvious that Sebastian Bugalho does not understand enough about economics to be able to help these companies,” said Joao Cotrim de Figueiredo at the end of a visit to the DRT Moldes plant in Leiria.

According to the head of the IL list, Bugalho “is not in a position to discuss economic issues,” which is serious since he is the representative of a party that “should be more sensitive to these issues.”

For the Liberal leader, with the exception of IL, there is no candidate capable of representing the interests of companies and “much less able to contribute to the search for solutions.”

“Someone in these European elections should be on the side of these companies that make the Portuguese economy move forward, and it will be of great benefit if the European economy also moves forward,” he said.

Companies in Portugal that would “benefit a lot” if Europe had an industrial growth strategy “need someone” who understands their specific challenges, Cotrim de Figueiredo stressed.

“It is important that in the European Parliament there is a voice of those who have specific knowledge of what the economy needs,” he emphasized.

In his opinion, it is important that Portuguese companies benefit from Europe, which is once again putting growth first.

Joao Cotrim de Figueiredo emphasized that it is not enough to have a general understanding of how the economy and the company work, it is necessary to understand that legislation is created by those who do not understand the economy and by those who cannot discuss the most economically significant topics. will not give the required results.

In Portugal, the European elections will take place on June 9, and 17 parties and coalitions will take part in them: AD, PS, Chega, IL, BE, CDU, Livre, PAN, ADN, MAS, Ergue-te, Nova Direita, Volt. Portugal, RIR, We the Citizens, MPT and PTP. 21 deputies will be elected.
