This Monday, the Coimbra court sentenced a 36-year-old man to seven years and six months in prison for two crimes of aggravated robbery. The robberies took place in January 2024 in Coimbra, while the accused was on parole. In one case, he stabbed a taxi driver and was caught only because he left his electronic bracelet in the car.
The man got into a taxi as a client, and upon arrival at his destination, in order to steal a cash box (120 euros in cash), he put a chokehold on the driver from behind (strangulation technique). Using a sharp weapon, he struck the driver several times in the head and face, causing him serious injuries. The same week he committed another violent robbery.
The court was left in no doubt about the “extreme brutality of the crimes” and the degree of danger of the suspect, who was released on parole after serving 13 years in prison for robbery, theft and aggravated fraud.
