A spokesman for the People-Animals-Nature (PAN) organisation wants the prime minister to explain during the State of the Nation debate what reforms he will implement in the country, accusing the executive of moving “from agenda to agenda” without “implementing measures”.
“In the next State of the Nation debate, it will be important for Luis Montenegro to really explain what reforms he really wants to promote, because we cannot go from one agenda to another that is advertised and not implement the measures,” said Ines Sousa Real in a statement to Lusa news agency as part of the State of the Nation debate scheduled for Wednesday in parliament.
The only PAN MP warned about the current rise in the cost of living, lamented the young emigration, the “lack of recognition of various professions” in the country and demanded that the government implement the Basic Law on Climate, approved by parliament.
In areas such as housing or health care, Ines Souza Real argues that “a more structured, impartial vision is needed that will allow people to get answers regardless of changes in government.”
During the State of the Nation debate, the PAN leader announced that she would again propose to the Prime Minister that the next Attorney General of the Republic be heard in Parliament so that he could present his program of justice and public service to the parliament’s deputies.
“On the other hand, for us, as a party of environmentalists, it is important that Luis Montenegro says what he is going to do with the forest. We are going to start big fires there, because, unfortunately, we know that this time of year is always very conducive to this, and we still have no vision from the government on how it will value firefighters, whether they are professionals or volunteers, and how we will reform the forest,” he stressed.
Asked what PAN’s priorities will be in September, after the parliamentary break, Sousa Real recalled the party’s intention to submit a proposal on bullfighting to the referendum, and also highlighted wage increases and tax breaks for families as priorities.
“What has been done is not enough, and the state budget will have to respond to this. This will be a defining moment in this cycle of governance, the next state budget, and for PAN to work effectively on measures that will allow, for example, to review the IRS level at the level of inflation is absolutely fundamental, along with the issue of supporting animal protection associations, which must strengthen this support,” he stressed.
A state of the nation debate is scheduled for Wednesday, the first since the SDP/CDU-PP minority leader took office, with Prime Minister Luis Montenegro and the rest of the government taking part.
