The Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into the Political Oversight of the TAP Leadership, proposed by BE, will begin work on the 22nd, an official source in the Office of the President of the Assembly of the Republic told Lusa.
According to an official source from Augusto Santos Silva’s office, “After listening to the conference of leaders, the President of the Parliament will appoint the inauguration of the commission of inquiry on the 22nd after the plenary session.”
On 3 February, the BE’s proposal to set up a commission of inquiry to oversee the political management of the TAP was approved in parliament, with the PS and PCP abstaining and the rest of the parties voting in favor.
The text, approved without votes against, establishes a parliamentary commission of inquiry “under the political control of the TAP leadership”, which, in particular, between 2020 and 2022 will focus on investigating the entry and exit of the former ruler Alexandra Reis and guardianship responsibilities in the decisions taken.
PS has already announced that it will appoint deputy Jorge Seguro Sánchez as chairman of the parliamentary commission of inquiry on TAP proposed by BE, despite arguing that this presidency should be before Chega.
After the leaders’ conference on 18 January, it appeared that there was a tie between Chega and PS, in accordance with de Hondt’s usual method of allocating parliamentary committee chairmen.
The purpose of this commission will be “to assess the implementation of political oversight of the leadership of TAR, SGPS, SA and TAP, SA, in particular, in the period from 2020 to 2022, under public control.”
The blockers want Parliament to investigate “the process of co-opting, appointing or hiring Alexandra Reis for the administration” of the airline, as well as “other administrators and the conditions for applying the relevant legal framework.”
“The process and nature of the appointment of Alexandra Reis to the NAV board of directors and the possible connection with the process of leaving the TAP board of directors,” they want to clarify further.
The subject of the parliamentary investigation that BE defends is also the process of dismissal of members of the TAP governing bodies and “compensation practices”, as well as “remuneration paid to members of the governing bodies” in its various components.
“The quality of the information provided to the shareholder and the involvement of decision makers in decision making in TAP, SGPS and TAP, SA” is also part of the commission’s objective, as are the airline’s management decisions “which could be detrimental to the interests of the company and therefore public interest.”

This morning, after the leaders’ conference, the only PAN deputies, Inés Souza Real, and Livre, Ruy Tavares, challenged their exclusion from this commission of inquiry.
According to the Legal Regime of Parliamentary Inquiries, “when determining the number of members of the commission, the maximum limit of 17 deputies must be respected, respecting the principle of representativeness provided for in Article 31, paragraph 1, of the Rules.
