Two GNR soldiers from the Santo André post, a man and a woman, were injured and became victims of the crash of the car they were driving on a dirt road leading to Praia da Fonte do Corteixo, in the parish of Santo André, municipality of Santiago do Casem.
After emergency crews assessed him at the scene, the man was found to be seriously injured and was taken by INEM helicopter to Garcia de Orta Hospital in Almada.
The woman was considered slightly injured and was taken to the emergency room of the Litoral Alentejuno Hospital in Santiago do Cacem by the Santo André Fire Department.
The cause of the incident is unknown and is being investigated by GNR.
The alarm was raised at 11:32 and 19 rescue operations were carried out with the support of 7 vehicles from the Santo André Fire Department, VMER from the Litoral Alentejano Hospital, INEM and GNR.
