According to IPMA, more than 30 municipalities in the counties of Portalegre, Santarem, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Guarda and Bragança are at maximum risk of rural fires this Wednesday, on a day when temperatures are expected to rise.
According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), several municipalities in all districts of mainland Portugal currently pose a very high and high fire risk.
This risk, defined by IPMA, has five levels, from low to maximum. Calculations are made on the basis of air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and the amount of precipitation over the past 24 hours.
IPMA forecasts today for the continent partly cloudy or clear skies, light to moderate winds from the northern quadrant, sometimes strong in the western coastal strip and in the highlands, with gusts up to 60 kilometers per hour and rising temperatures. Air temperatures, especially maximums, are also expected in the southern region.
Minimum temperatures will range from 12 degrees Celsius (in Coimbra) to 16 degrees Celsius (in Lisbon, Setubal and Faro), while maximum temperatures will range from 22 (in Aveiro) to 31 (in Castelo Branco).
