At least four people have died in a shooting at a carnival in Rio de Janeiro. There is a child among the victims.

At least four people were killed and 19 injured in a shooting near a beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during the Maga Carnival celebrations. According to Globo, there is a child among the victims.

Among the victims were two pregnant women, two children aged 6 and 11 and a 15-year-old teenager.

Videos were posted on social media, which quickly went viral, showing the violence that was felt at the scene.

The reasons behind the device are still being investigated, but it is believed to have started after a discussion with a police officer.

The Municipality of Mage has already commented on the situation and expressed deep regret over what happened. Support for carnival programs in the city has been suspended and calls are now being made to cancel the parades.
