A 52-year-old man was detained by the GNR on suspicion of psychological abuse against his partner, 44, in the municipality of Ponte de Sor, Portalegre district, the security forces said this Monday.
The GNR Portalegre Territorial Command said in a statement that the suspect was arrested on Wednesday as part of a domestic violence complaint.
The military guards proceeded to make an arrest when they arrived at the scene and found that the victim was “suffering from psychological abuse” by her partner.
“During the police action, already in the presence of the military, the aggressor continued his behavior, causing psychological aggression, the reasons that led to his red-handed arrest,” the statement says.
The detainee was present at the Ponte de Sor court and was released, but with coercive measures preventing him from approaching the victim controlled by the electronic bracelet.
The man is also prohibited from contacting the victim and witnesses in any way and by any means during the process, as well as visiting places that the victim frequents.
