The government has doubled to 20 million euros the investment available to improve the conditions, infrastructure and equipment of public maternity hospitals this year, Health Minister Manuel Pizarro announced this Wednesday.
The Executive Directorate of the National Health Service (SNS) announced at the beginning of January the allocation of 10 million euros for the re-qualification of maternity units, work to be carried out this year at the request of hospital departments.
At the hearing before the Health Commission, where he is being heard at the request of Chega and PCP for emergency services, the Minister of Health said that, with the exception of two maternity hospitals, which were already scheduled for work with funding from EU funds, all the others participated in open tenders opened at the beginning of the year.
“We have reserved a funding pool of 10 million euros,” but, according to him, “the sum of all applications is 37 million euros, which far exceeds the amount of funding available.”
In this sense, the minister announced that the government will double the investment available to National Health Service maternity hospitals.
“This year we intend to invest 20 million euros in improving the infrastructure, comfort and equipment of public maternity hospitals,” he stressed.
For the Minister, this retraining is necessary because it also “causes more satisfaction for users and more satisfaction for medical professionals.”
