President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa this Saturday expressed his confidence that there will be stakeholders in the privatization of TAP and he wants the process to be completed “as soon as possible”.
In Gondomar, in the Porto region, on the sidelines of the Extraordinary Congress of the Portuguese League of Firefighters, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said that “the privatization process of the TAP is very important”, expressing regret that the covid-19 pandemic did not allow him to close it in 2020, so he wants, to close it quickly.
“I have always believed that the main goal of restructuring is to prepare for privatization. I am convinced that there will be interested parties. I am not an overly optimistic person, but I think that what, unfortunately, could not be closed in March 2020 to the pandemic can be closed as soon as possible,” he said.
The President of the Republic has been questioned on the news this morning that former TAP CEO Christine Urmier-Widener is preparing to demand more than three million euros in compensation for wages and a bonus to which she will be entitled until the end of the contract, but did not answer this question specifically, preferring instead to emphasize the need to complete the privatization process.
“For Portugal and for the Portuguese who have invested their money for so many years, it is very important to complete a process that must be completed quickly,” he concluded.
