Government allocates 15.5 million euros to support producers affected by floods

The government has published in Diário da República a set of diplomas with support measures for producers affected by the floods that have occurred since the end of 2022, with a total value of almost 15.5 million euros.

“Having identified needs on the ground, with the support of our authorities and always in the spirit of dialogue and cooperation, these are public policy measures that aim to guarantee support and conditions that allow minimizing the consequences of an extreme situation. in the last months of December and January,” Agriculture and Food Minister Maria do Seu Antuns said in a statement.

This is an order that provides for measures to restore the tangible assets of agricultural holdings affected by the flood, with a total allocation of 10 million euros.

This amount will be funded by the Rural Development Program (PDR) 2020.

The government also designated the December and January floods as a “natural disaster”, thereby stepping up support to restore productive capacity, including through PDR 2020.

Applications for this support open on Monday.

This support, totaling five million euros, covers perennial plantations, machinery and equipment, and facilities to support agricultural activities.

According to the same note, farms whose damage from at least one type of intervention exceeds 30% of their productive potential are eligible to participate.

Applications can be submitted from Monday until 26 May using the form available on the Portugal 2020 and PDR 2020 portals.

At the same time, a mechanism was implemented to support breeders and producers affected by the floods in Portalegre.

Following these phenomena, the death and disappearance of several heads of cattle, goats and sheep was recorded.

The compensation corresponds to a total of 48,900 euros, and payments to affected producers and breeders have already been made, the Ministry of Agriculture said.

“Proximity must be at the heart of developing responses and strategies, especially in difficult times like the ones we are going through. […]. Only in this way can we contribute to the cohesive and sustainable development of the country, that is, to the vitality, dynamism and recognition of the territories,” said Maria do Seu Antuns.
