Man claims to have become a father before killing a pedestrian in Coimbra

A 30-year-old driver accused of fatally hitting a man while fleeing a PSP in the early hours of October 4, 2019 in Coimbra said in court on Tuesday that he was celebrating after learning he was going to be a father. Used alcohol and cocaine.

“I was upset,” he admitted. He said he only noticed the pedestrian when “he was already on it” and that he tried to brake but couldn’t. Since then, he said, he “fell into a panic” and only stayed “at home”. He guaranteed that he had not yet realized that the PSP was following him. A friend who accompanied him recalled that the defendant had locked the car doors, “went crazy” and ignored her requests to let her out. “I was full of fear,” he said. She said that at the time of the collision she was “in blood and glass”, jumping into the back seat.
