Câmara de Odemira, in the district of Beja, continues its “very conditioned” actions after a computer attack that targeted it on March 25, the mayor of the municipality, Elder Guerreiro, said this Thursday.
Speaking to Lusa, the president of this municipality on the Alentejo coast, elected by PS, explained that the attack affected “the entire digital system of the city council, all organic divisions and all municipal services.”
“It was actually a very brutal attack and the city council continues to take conditional action,” he said.
According to the mayor, “the first week was spent on restoring all internal systems of the mayor’s office, namely servers and databases and information.”
Hélder Guerreiro considered it predictable that “within one or two weeks, relations will normalize. [da autarquia] with the people.”
“Our first will is to normalize service to the people and respond to citizens,” he assured, adding that it would also be necessary to “restore some of the things that were lost and restore processes.”
A computer attack on the Odemir Chamber was registered on March 25, jeopardizing the normal functioning of municipal services.
The case was “immediately” reported to the National Cyber Security Center and the judicial police, who are investigating the incident.
Elder Guerreiro informed Luza that “as in similar cases, the attackers left a lead so that it could be traced and eventually a ransom offer could be secured.”
“But together with the security forces, we decided not to carry out this revision, because the experience of other cases tells us that this is fruitless. We need to work to get everything online again,” he said.
