The municipalities of the Faro region present this Sunday a fire danger in the countryside between high and high on a day when temperatures above 30 degrees are expected in various parts of mainland Portugal.
According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the municipalities of Monchique, Portimão, Silves, Loulé, Tavira and Sant Bras de Alportel in the district of Faro pose the highest fire risk in rural areas.
Fifteen municipalities in the districts of Faro, Santarém, Beja, Castelo Branco and Portalegre pose a very high risk.
With the exception of the northern coastal region of mainland Portugal, all other municipalities are in the moderate to high danger range.
For Monday, IPMA predicts an increase in fire danger.
The fire danger defined by IPMA has five levels, from minimum to maximum.
Calculations are made based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and precipitation over the past 24 hours.
On Friday, the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority already warned of a very high risk of fire in the North, Center and Algarve regions these days due to hot and dry weather and warned that burning and burning without permission is prohibited.
IPMA predicts an increase in maximum temperature on the continent today, especially on the west coast, and continued strong winds in the highlands in places.
The maximum temperature is between 22 degrees Celsius and 31 degrees Celsius in Setúbal.
