Jesuit priest accused of harassing staff at Nun’Alvres Institute

The Porto prosecutor’s office charged the Jesuit priest, former director general of the Nun’Alvres Institute in Santo Tirso, with six crimes of persecution between 2018 and 2019.

The Ministry of State points out strong evidence that the defendants acted with “an attitude of labor aggression and complete control over their professional activities”, harassing them at any time during working and non-working hours, issuing standing orders, demanding an immediate response on matters beyond the scope of their functions. , “thus achieving their physical and mental health and personal dignity.”

The Portuguese province of the Society of Jesus, to which Father Filipe Martins, 52, belongs, said it was “renewing its confidence” in the person targeted.
