The Deputy General Secretary of the PS considered this Friday that the President of the Republic is defending the political stability in Portugal, which is the result of the vote of the Portuguese in the last elections and is not a whim of the Socialists.
This position was conveyed by João Torres at a press conference at PS’s national headquarters in Lisbon after he was confronted by statements made this Friday by Marcelo Rebel de Sousa in Braga in which he stated that the dissolution of the Assembly of the Republic “it was would be bad news,” but stressed that “sometimes there has to be bad news.”
“Political stability is not a whim of the PS, but rather the result of an expression of the popular vote and the voters’ confidence in our party in the legislative elections held just over a year ago. The PS is asserting itself as a factor of political stability in times of uncertainty on a global scale,” he said.
As for the head of state, João Torres said that his choice was “clearly in favor of political stability.”
“This is something that she essentially and fundamentally showed in public terms. The PS is a factor of stability through the majority in the Assembly of the Republic, which gives the government all the conditions to continue its rule,” he added.
