A fire destroys a fuel depot in Volna, Krasnodar Krai, just over ten kilometers from a bridge connecting Russia to the Crimean Peninsula, a territory of Ukraine annexed by Moscow in 2014.
“The fire covered an area of 1200 square meters. 23 units of special equipment and 85 firefighters are taking part in extinguishing the fire,” Fyodor Babenkov, head of the local administration, said in a message on the Telegram messaging system.
This is the second fire at fuel depots in Russia over the past four days.
Early last Saturday morning, an attack using unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) set fire to a fuel depot in the port of Sevastopol in Crimea, the main base of the Russian fleet in the Black Sea.
According to Krasnodar Governor Veniamin Kondratyev, the fire at Volna has not yet resulted in any casualties.
“In social networks, information is being circulated that the withdrawal of Volna residents has begun (…) this information is not true,” said Kondratiev.
The governor added that the situation did not require evacuation from the site, and asked the population to “keep calm”, not naming the reasons that provoked the fire.
So far, the situation in Volna has not been confirmed by independent sources.
