Former Republic President Cavaco Silva on Tuesday urged the government to use the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) to ensure the country’s growth, instead of throwing money “on problems without solving them.”
“We hope that European funds of unprecedented size, which are being sent to Portugal, are used to ensure economic growth of the order of three to four percent per year, and are not just money thrown by the government on top of problems, without resolve,” defended Anibal Cavaco Silva in an article published by the PSD delegation in the European Parliament on the occasion of Europe Day.
This position was the only reference to Portugal in the article.
The former president also called for the leadership of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to “surprise on the positive side”, for putting the European Union “at the forefront of compliance with the Paris Accords” for having managed to get the members of the United States to agree to an “ambitious reduction of carbon dioxide emissions”.
