The government creates a working group to combat harassment in universities

The Portuguese government will create a working group to develop pedagogical actions with higher education institutions to combat sexual and moral harassment, the minister of guardianship said on Tuesday.

“Zero tolerance” for cases of harassment, the minister reminded on Tuesday, stressing that this is not an exclusive problem in higher education.

Regarding the establishment of an independent commission of inquiry that could receive complaints, Elvira Fortunato recalled that there are already two commissions dealing with these issues: the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIGE) and the Commission for Equality in Labor and Employment ( CITE), from the ministries of Ana Catarina Mendes and Ana Mendes Godinho respectively.
