The President of the PSD agrees to the request for a consistent review of the constitutionality of the euthanasia diploma. Luis Montenegro recalled that “it is no longer the time to talk about this in definitive terms, because there is still no approved text”, but “this is a possibility that can be useful even for security and legal certainty.”
Montenegro spoke in Leiria shortly after the SDP parliamentary leader announced that he would sign on to a demand for successive checks if a group of Social Democrat MPs moved forward. In connection with this initiative, the leader of the PS parliamentary group, Eurico Brillante Diaz, considered that “this is the normal functioning of institutions, but this is still the zigzag of Dr. Luis Montenegro in this matter”, because only now “after the work done, after the inspection, it comes to say that he is for consistent verification.
Parliament is to approve this Friday the diploma, which was vetoed by the President of the Republic. PS, BE, IL and PAN will vote for its adoption.
