Starting this Wednesday, an online test will assess the risk of internet addiction among young people, as part of an initiative developed by the Geração Cordão and Ispa — Instituto Universitário project.
On the day that World Internet Day is celebrated, this test will aim to analyze the consumption habits of technology and the Internet among young users and, according to project coordinator Geração Cordão and Ispa researcher Ivone Patrao, takes into account the perception of online behavior, regardless of whether it is young person, parents or teacher.
“The test is a useful tool for families and teachers to assess the risk of addiction in young people, but it is important, first of all, so that in the event of a psychologist’s intervention, we already have an initial assessment of the risk of online addiction. in order to then evaluate and intervene more deeply and purposefully on a case-by-case basis,” said Ivone Patrao, quoted in the statement.
According to the statement, the test will be available on the Geracao Cordão Project website (www.geracaocordao.com) and is designed to help better manage the health risks associated with Internet overuse among young people.
According to recent research, excessive Internet use is associated with mood swings and negative effects on family and social interactions, as well as consequences for eating, sleeping, and school performance. As part of a study carried out in February by the Geração Cordão project in partnership with the Portuguese Victim Support Association, Ivone Patrao profiled the user with the highest online addiction.
The profile indicates a user between the ages of 16 and 21, a male who attended high school, entered the online world at the age of eight, who does not exercise, has lower school performance, does not date, more than six hours a day online, sends and receives intimate data (sexting), plays online, and is the victim or aggressor (cyberbullying).
The Geração Cordão project was created by Ivone Patrao in 2010 based on clinical experience and professional research in the field of online behavior and addiction.
