Costa met with the Prime Minister of Ukraine and the leader of the Belarusian Democratic Party

The Prime Minister of Portugal met this Wednesday on the sidelines of the summit of heads of state and government of the Council of Europe with his Ukrainian counterpart and with the leader of the movement for democracy in Belarus.

These meetings in Reykjavik with Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal and with human rights activist and democratic leader of Belarus Svetlana Tikhanovskaya were published on Antonio Costa’s official Twitter account.

“On the sidelines of the Council of Europe summit, I met with Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmygal, to whom I once again expressed our support,” wrote the head of the executive branch of Portugal.

Regarding the meeting with Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, the Prime Minister said that he expressed Portugal’s support for the “democratic transition” in Belarus.

Among other bilateral meetings, António Costa also met with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Marka Rutte, where “topics on the European agenda” were analyzed.

As for Ukraine, before this meeting in the Icelandic capital, Antonio Costa was received by Denys Shmygal last May in Kiev, with whom he then signed an agreement on providing financial support to the Ukrainian executive in the amount of 250 million euros.

“We formalized this important commitment by signing an agreement on financial cooperation,” the head of the Portuguese executive said at the time.

In front of Portuguese journalists, the prime minister said that of these 250 million euros, 100 million will be transferred during 2022 through the Ukrainian account with the International Monetary Fund or through other channels that the European Union can decide. financing.

The remaining 150 million euros will be transferred to the Ukrainian state during this year and 2024.
