China accuses G7 of discord with Beijing

This Saturday, China accused the G7 of fomenting hatred against Beijing after the leaders of the seven most industrialized countries criticized the use of “economic coercion” as a political tool, referring to the Asian giant.

“Some members of the G7 ignore the principles of market economy and fair competition and unreasonably suppress Chinese companies,” the Chinese embassy in London said in a statement posted on the Chinese social network WeChat.

“China is very unhappy and strongly opposes this,” the embassy said in a statement quoted by the Spanish news agency EFE.

At a meeting between Friday and Sunday in the Japanese city of Hiroshima, G7 members this Saturday advocated the need to reduce “overdependence” on China and issued a statement on the issue of Taiwan.

The leaders of the bloc, which includes Germany, Canada, the US, France, Italy, Japan and the UK, as well as the European Union (EU), have also criticized the use of “economic coercion” as a political weapon in reference to China.

The Chinese Embassy accused Washington of “generalizing the concept of national security, abusing export controls, and using discriminatory and unfair practices against companies from other countries.”

“China itself is a victim of economic coercion by the United States,” the embassy said, noting that Beijing “has always strongly opposed economic coercion by other countries.”

“It is the United States that must stop repression and restrictions on other countries in the name of national security,” he said.

The Chinese Embassy in London also said the United States must stop “indiscriminate unilateral bullying.”

He also accused Washington of “violating the security and stability of global production and supply chains.”

Chinese diplomacy urged the G7 to “renounce the Cold War mentality” and “stop interfering in the internal affairs of other countries” and “create clashes and divisions in the international community.”

“As the changing chairman of the G7, Japan must respond responsibly and address the problems of the international community,” he criticized.

Beijing assured that “it will resolutely and vigorously fight against any words and actions that harm China’s interests.”

Regarding Taiwan, he reaffirmed that the island “has been an integral part of Chinese territory since ancient times” and defended the principle of “one China” for Beijing in developing relations with other countries.

“The G7 is ignoring facts and seriously interfering in China’s internal affairs on issues related to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Xinjiang and Tibet,” the embassy said.

He also accused the G7 of trying to “sow discord so that several countries stand up to China” and ensured that Beijing “is a firm defender” of international maritime law, referring to disputes in the South China Sea.

“We always insist on the peaceful resolution of disputes through negotiations and consultations with the countries directly involved, based on respect for historical facts and in accordance with international law,” he added.
