The government will spend 210 thousand euros to equip 140 “robocops” who will guard the Pope in Lisbon

The Ministry of the Interior has purchased anti-riot equipment for 140 police officers who will use it during World Youth Day, which will be held in Lisbon from 1 to 6 August and will bring Pope Francis to Portugal. Helmets will be purchased to maintain public order and anti-traumatic suits, designed to make agents real “robocops”.

For this, two contracts were concluded (public competition) in the amount of about 210 thousand euros. One of the contracts provides for the purchase of 140 overalls in the amount of 953 euros.

Each suit consists of a vest and protectors for the shoulders, elbows, arms, thighs and genitals. The equipment, which weighs about 5 kg, has a 3-year warranty and is protected from combustible substances. The helmets cost 555 euros each and weigh up to 1.9 kg.
