Cristo Redentor turned off the lights in solidarity with football player Vinicius Junior

Christ the Redeemer, Brazil’s most famous monument, turned off the lights this Monday in solidarity with soccer player Vinicius Junior, a victim of racism last Sunday during a game against Valencia in the Spanish league.

The Cristo Redentor Archbishop’s Sanctuary said in a statement that it “denies the racist attacks against the Brazilian player Vinicius Junior this Sunday, May 21, during the game between Real Madrid and Valencia.”

“So, this Monday from 18:00 to 19:00 [horário de Brasília]The lights have been turned off at the Monument to Christ the Redeemer as a symbol of the collective fight against racism and in solidarity with the player and all those who suffer from prejudice around the world, ”he added.

On Twitter, the game made a post to thank everyone for the love shown to it.
