Christ the Redeemer, Brazil’s most famous monument, turned off the lights this Monday in solidarity with soccer player Vinicius Junior, a victim of racism last Sunday during a game against Valencia in the Spanish league.
The Cristo Redentor Archbishop’s Sanctuary said in a statement that it “denies the racist attacks against the Brazilian player Vinicius Junior this Sunday, May 21, during the game between Real Madrid and Valencia.”
“So, this Monday from 18:00 to 19:00 [horário de Brasília]The lights have been turned off at the Monument to Christ the Redeemer as a symbol of the collective fight against racism and in solidarity with the player and all those who suffer from prejudice around the world, ”he added.
On Twitter, the game made a post to thank everyone for the love shown to it.
