Portuguese tennis player Frederico Silva is one win away from the main frame of Roland Garros after beating Belgium’s Ziza Bergs 6-3 in the second round of qualifying this Wednesday.
The current second Portuguese and 225th in the ATP ranking surprised the 23-year-old Belgian, who finished 21st in the “qualifier”, showing himself in an hour and 22 minutes.
“Kiko”, 28, has achieved a big victory over the 131st tennis player in the world and will now discuss entering the main frame of the second Grand Slam tournament of the season with Italy’s Giulio Zeppieri (129th), who today defeated the “executioner” Joao Sousa, the Argentinian Santiago Rodriguez Taverns, with a score of 6–3 and 6–4.
This is the third time Frederico Silva has competed in the Roland Garros qualifying round, having reached the third and final round in 2020 and being knocked out of the first round the following year.
This season, the tennis player from Caldas da Rainha lost in the first round of qualifying for the Australian Open, the first “major” of the year.
The second national number only played once in the main frame of the Australian Grand Slam in 2021.
