As the Biscayan entity has specified, the Celtic-Athletic match is part of the events to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the rojiblanco club, and will also serve as a tribute to Scottish footballer James Forrest, who has spent 15 seasons at Celtic.
Athletic recalled that in March 2011, in San Mamés, both teams played another friendly, to raise money for Biscayan football; the result was 0-0. In addition, in 2019, the legendary Scottish Celtic player Billy McNeill was honored with the One Club Award, granted by the Basque club.
